David Butterfield Becomes Goldenwest’s Fifth President and CEO

OGDEN, UT: July 1, 2026 – Goldenwest Credit Union begins a new chapter today as David G. Butterfield becomes its first new president and CEO in 14 years and only the fifth to hold the position in the credit union’s 90-year history.

The Board of Directors appointed Butterfield, previously Goldenwest’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, to succeed Kerry Wahlen, who retired after serving as president and CEO since 2012.

Butterfield brings 21 years of credit union leadership experience to his new role. Before USU Credit Union merged with Goldenwest, he served as USU Credit Union’s president and CEO. Since joining Goldenwest’s executive leadership team in 2013, he has overseen key operational areas, including the USU Credit Union division, consumer and real estate lending, branch operations, business services, financial wellness, and asset recovery.

In a video message to Goldenwest’s employees, Butterfield thanked Wahlen for his leadership and service at Goldenwest, and honored the railway workers who founded the credit union with a vision of building better lives and a stronger community. He encouraged employees to carry that legacy forward by putting Goldenwest’s brand promise—“We’ll Take Care of You!”—into practice every day in their service to members, one another, and the communities they serve.
